Why we play live
In Kathak class a tabla player keeps the taal. In Odissi class the pakhwaj sets the pulse. Students hear how footwork answers the drum, learn to hold the cycle and land on sam, and get used to performing with live accompaniment long before they reach a stage.
Few schools do this every class. It is the reason our students sound and move the way they do.
